Resolution of the Quinn-Rand-Strogatz Constant of Nonlinear Physics

چکیده
Herein we develop connections between zeta functions and some recent “mysterious” constants of nonlinear physics. In an important analysis of coupled Winfree oscillators, Quinn, Rand, and Strogatz [14] developed a certain N -oscillator scenario whose bifurcation phase offset φ is implicitly defined, with a conjectured asymptotic behavior: sinφ ∼ 1 − c1/N , with experimental estimate c1 = 0.605443657 . . .. We are able to derive the exact theoretical value of this “QRS constant” c1 as a real zero of a particular Hurwitz zeta function. This discovery enables, for example, the rapid resolution of c1 to extreme precision. Results and conjectures are provided in regard to higher-order terms of the sinφ asymptotic, and to yet more physics constants emerging from the original QRS work. ∗Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA 94720, [email protected]. Singular unlocking transition in the Winfree model of coupled oscillators.
The Winfree model consists of a population of globally coupled phase oscillators with randomly distributed natural frequencies. As the coupling strength and the spread of natural frequencies are varied, the various stable states of the model can undergo bifurcations, nearly all of which have been characterized previously. The one exception is the unlocking transition, in which the frequency-loc...

In this paper, a simple and reproducible approach for attaching the multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) to the apex of the atomic force microscope probe has been proposed. For this purpose, the dielectrophoresis method was applied due to its simple performance, cheapness and reliability. In this method, various parameters such as voltage, frequency, concentration of carbon nanotubes solution an...
متن کاملApplication of different inverse methods for combination of vS and vGPR data to estimate porosity and water saturation
Inverse problem is one of the most important problems in geophysics as model parameters can be estimated from the measured data directly using inverse techniques. In this paper, applying different inverse methods on integration of S-wave and GPR velocities are investigated for estimation of porosity and water saturation. A combination of linear and nonlinear inverse problems are solved. Linear ...

Single crystals of nonlinear optical material bis (guanidinium) hydrogen phosphate monohydrate (G2HP) belonging to non centrosymmetric space group P 21c were successfully grown by the slow evaporation method. Optical transmittance and second harmonic generation of the grown crystals have been studied by UV-vis-NIR spectrum and Kurtz powder technique respectively. The transmittance of G2HP cryst...
متن کاملA total variation diminishing high resolution scheme for nonlinear conservation laws
In this paper we propose a novel high resolution scheme for scalar nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws. The aim of high resolution schemes is to provide at least second order accuracy in smooth regions and produce sharp solutions near the discontinuities. We prove that the proposed scheme that is derived by utilizing an appropriate flux limiter is nonlinear stable in the sense of total varia...
